Harlan Coben’s new Prime Video thriller, Lazarus, has an extensive cast playing some intriguing characters. The trailer for Lazarus offered the first glimpse at these characters as they investigate the mysterious circumstances around the death of the titular family’s patriarch, Jonathan.

Lazarus season 1’s ending lifts back the veil on what is really going on in the supernatural thriller. Not only does this set up the potential story of Lazarus season 2, but it gives the show’s central cast a lot to sink their teeth into. Sam Claflin as Joel Lazarus

Date of Birth: June 27, 1986

Actor: Sam Claflin was born in Ipswich, England. After graduating in 2009, Claflin’s breakout role came in 2013’s The Hunger Games: Catching Fire as Finnick Odair, a few years after appearing in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Bill Nighy as Jonathan Lazarus

Date of Birth: December 12, 1949

Actor: Bill Nighy was born in Caterham, England, and is one of the most well-known actors working today. Despite doing a lot of theater, film, and TV work before this, Nighy’s international breakout role was that of Billy Mack in Love Actually. This led to appearances in other Hollywood franchises, from the Three Flavors Cornetto trilogy to Pirates of the Caribbean.

Alexandra Roach as Jenna Lazarus

Actor: Alexandra Roach was born in Ammanford, Wales, and appeared in several Welsh TV shows early in her career. In 2011, Roach played young Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady and had a role in The Huntsman: Winter’s War, alongside Claflin. Roach’s most well-known roles came in the TV shows Utopia and No Offence, alongside others in Black Mirror and Killing Eve.

Character: Roach plays Jenna Lazarus, the surviving daughter of Jonathan, thus Joel’s only remaining sister. Jenna is a very spiritual character, believing in the afterlife, Reiki, tarot readings, and other spiritual practices. As such, she helps Joel as he experiences his unexplained phenomena, all while reckoning with her own secrets that link to Sutton’s death.

David Fynn as Seth McGovern

Actor: David Fynn is a British-Irish actor born in Cork, Ireland. Fynn’s breakout role came in the NBC TV sitcom, Undateable, leading to TV roles in Trolls: The Beat Goes On!, Trolls: TrollsTopia, and 2024’s Daddy Issues. Fynn also plays the role of Dewey Finn in the West End musical School of Rock, based on Jack Black’s character from the 2003 movie.

Character: Fynn plays Seth McGovern in Lazarus, the childhood best friend of Joel. Seth is now a police officer and has an on-and-off relationship with Jenna. Seth helps Joel as the character reckons with the death of his father, all while supporting him in the investigation of several other murders.

Actor: Kate Ashfield was born in Birmingham, England. Ashfield’s breakout role came in 2004’s Shaun of the Dead as Liz, a role that is also her most high-profile. Beyond that, Ashfield has appeared in several British TV shows, including Never Better, Line of Duty, A Confession, and His Dark Materials.

Character: Kate Ashfield plays Alison Brown in Lazarus, the DCI of the local police, Seth’s boss, and a close friend of Jonathan. Alison helps with the various investigations into different murders, including Jonathan’s. However, as Laz’s ability places him in more unexplainable situations, Alison becomes suspicious of him.

Karla Crome as Bella Catton: Bella Catton is Joel’s ex-wife in Lazarus, who regains contact with him when he returns home. Bella is played by Karla Crome, primarily known for British TV shows like Misfits, Prisoners’ Wives, Under the Dome, and the America Prime Video show, Carnival Row.

Curtis Tennant as Aidan Catton: Aidan Cotton is the son of Bella in Lazarus. Aidan becomes involved in Joel’s life after taking an interest in his mother’s ex-husband. Lazarus is Curtis Tennant’s first major role.

Edward Hogg as Sam Olsen: Sam Olsen is one of the prime suspects in the murder of Sutton, Joel’s sister, at the onset of Lazarus.
