Lauren Conrad feels “settled and happy” after turning her back on fame.
Lauren Conrad is enjoying her new quiet life
The 40-year-old reality TV star – who shot to stardom on MTV series Laguna Beach and The Hills – quit Los Angeles to move back to her hometown of Laguna Beach to live a quiet life out of the spotlight with her husband William Tell and their two sons, Liam, eight, and Charlie, six, and Lauren has no regrets about her decision.
She told PEOPLE magazine: “I really appreciate private moments. Nobody cares who I am here [in Laguna Beach]. It’s such a privilege to be able to live my life for myself after putting many years on camera.”
Lauren went on to reveal she feels lucky to be able to raise her sons in the same area where she grew up and they have no idea their mom is famous.
She said: “The fields they’re playing on are the same fields I played soccer o. I feel really lucky to be able to raise my kids in the same space I grew up. It’s a really special place …
“I don’t think they really understand [that I’m famous], and I don’t think they’re that interested, to be honest. Once in a while, I’ll be like: ‘Oh, look! Mama did this.’ And they’re like, ‘Okay …’ Someday, they’ll get it.”
She added: “I feel very settled and happy. I just feel grateful right now.”
Lauren recently stepped back into her old world of reality TV by filming a 20th anniversary special called The Reunion: Laguna Beach, but she insisted being back in front of the cameras again was much more difficult than she thought it would be.
She explained: “I thought it was going to be easier, like riding a bike. But I actually had a pretty hard time getting back into it.”
Lauren also revealed she used to feel “embarrassed” by her TV persona but she’s now able to look back on those days and “laugh” at herself.
It comes after Lauren’s former TV co-star Kristin Cavallari revealed she’s happy to have mended their relationship after years of falling out in front of the cameras.
In a previous interview with PEOPLE, Kristin explained: “We haven’t had any beefs for the last however many years. We’re adults. We’ve all moved past it, but I think it’s nice and to show everybody that we’ve moved past it is going to be really therapeutic in a lot of ways.
“We squashed it pretty quickly. Everyone wants to still believe that we’re enemies.”
