Kevin Spacey Clarifies ‘No Home’ Comments, Denies Being Homeless

Kevin Spacey clarified reports that he is “homeless,” explaining that his comments about having “no home” referred to moving between hotels and Airbnbs for work, not living in hardship.

The actor criticized the reports about his living situation and said that financial strain had forced him to sell his house, although he hadn’t filed for bankruptcy.

As he works toward a comeback after being cleared in multiple legal cases, Kevin Spacey says industry support for his return is growing.

Spacey is pushing back against recent reports that he is “homeless,” clarifying that his comments about having “no home” were misunderstood.

The 66-year-old “House of Cards” actor previously made headlines after an interview with The Telegraph, titled “Kevin Spacey interview: Homeless, cancelled and crooning in Cyprus,” where he spoke about living in hotels and Airbnbs.

In a video posted Sunday on Instagram, Spacey addressed the growing speculation and expressed gratitude to those who reached out with concern.

“I don’t usually make it my business to correct the media. If I did, I wouldn’t have time for much else, but in light of the recent articles claiming I am homeless, I feel the need to respond,” he began. “Not to the press, but to the thousands of people who’ve reached out over the past few days, offering me a place to stay or have just asked if I’m ok.”

Spacey explained that although he has been moving between short-term rentals and hotels due to the unpredictable nature of his work, this does not mean he is “homeless” in the way people typically understand the term.

In the clip, Spacey stressed that he never intended to equate his challenges with the struggles of individuals living on the streets or facing extreme housing insecurity or financial hardship.

“My heart goes out to them,” he said. “But it is clear from the article itself that I am not one of them nor was I attempting to say that I was.”

The two-time Oscar winner also criticized the publication for a headline he described as misleading, suggesting it distorted the original context of the story for clicks.

During the original interview, the “American Beauty” star revealed that the financial fallout from the past seven years forced him to sell his home and left him constantly on the move.

“I’ve had very little coming in and everything going out. I’m going where the work is. I literally have no home, that’s what I’m attempting to explain.”

Despite rumors, he noted he has never filed for bankruptcy.

The recent video post comes as Spacey continues attempting a slow return to the industry after his 2017 fall from mainstream Hollywood, following multiple sexual misconduct allegations, all of which he denies.

In the years since, he has been cleared in several high-profile legal cases: a New York jury found him not liable in October 2022, and he was acquitted of multiple charges in London in July 2023. Despite these victories, he has yet to fully return to Hollywood.

“We are in touch with some extremely powerful people who want to put me back to work,” he told The Telegraph, noting support from peers like Sharon Stone and Liam Neeson. “And that will happen at its right time. But I will also say what I think the industry seems to be waiting for is to be given permission – by someone who is in some position of enormous respect and authority.”

During his chat with the publication, Spacey suggested that a single endorsement from a major filmmaker could change everything.

“If Martin Scorsese or Quentin Tarantino call Evan [his manager, Evan Lowenstein] tomorrow, it will be over,” he said.

The actor continued, “I will be incredibly honored and delighted when that level of talent picks up the phone.” “And I believe it’s going to happen.”

Spacey also reflected on the past seven years as a deeply humbling chapter, one that, he says, reshaped how he views fame. He explained that he’s returned to what he calls a “twist of Lemmon,” a reference to actor Jack Lemmon’s gracious approach to stardom.

According to Spacey, he now takes genuine pleasure in slowing down, meeting people, and engaging with those who stop him in public. “I’m stopped all the time in many different places, in many different circumstances, and people are so kind and so generous,” he said.

This shift, he added, has helped him regain a healthier, more comfortable relationship with public attention. “I’m not putting a hat on and ducking out of buildings. I’m walking with my head high, no glasses on my face, no hat, nothing to hide,” he said.

Spacey is next set to appear in “1780,” a film directed by Dustin Fairbanks. The project follows a wounded soldier from the Revolutionary War who is taken in by a trapper and his young son. Spacey stars alongside DJ Qualls and P.J. Marshall.
