Is Superman leading directly into the new Supergirl movie? One major cameo in the DC Universe’s debut project may tell fans more than they think.

In recent months, the idea of Milly Alcock’s Supergirl appearing in Superman has become cemented in the minds of fans. From leaks, to suspicious timings of casting announcements, it seemed almost inevitable that the Woman of Tomorrow would be making her DC Universe debut in her cousin’s movie. And, for once, it seems as though fans were right.
The ending of Superman shows Milly Alcock’s Supergirl drunk off her gourd while coming to pick up Krypto from her cousin. The short cameo presents a much different version of the heroine from many other adaptations. While Supergirl has always been most irresponsible than Superman, her portrayal in the new DC Universe seems to be leaning heavily into the burnt-out girlfailure archetype. And if early reactions are anything to go by, it seems as though fans enjoy the new direction.
How Superman’s Cameo Sets Up Supergirl
Though simply revealing a cameo most people assumed would happen anyway isn’t particularly newsworthy. Truthfully, there’s two ways this small scene sets up the upcoming Supergirl movie. Not only does Milly Alcock’s appearance set the tone for the character leading into the film, but it also bridges the gap of how Krypto the Superdog manages to hop its way from one DC Universe film to another, despite how far apart they take place.
The other way Milly Alcock’s cameo sets up Supergirl is by establishing a baseline for the character in the DC Universe. By making Supergirl much more bold and brash in Superman than any prior incarnation, it shows that she has a long way to go in her journey of self-discovery. And given Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is a very emotional story, it’s sure the heroine will go through some extreme changes in the upcoming film.
