The Today show cast and crew were told to “act totally normal” for Savannah Guthrie’s return.

The 54-year-old presenter stepped away from the daytime programme in February after her mother Nancy, 86, disappeared from her Arizona home, but she ended her two-month hiatus on Monday (06.04.26), and the producers wanted to make the transition as easy as possible for her.
An insider told Page Six: “It was supposed to be business as usual, [producers] said to act totally normal.
“‘Move forward’ is the vibe. It’s been a hard year and a draining time.”
A source described her as “the heart of the show” and a “steady hand that guides everyone in the right direction”.
They continued: “The staff and crew, we all needed her back. It was emotional for everyone.
“Her sadness and pain are not gone, but her bravery and strength aren’t either, and her faith is unmatched.
“Just as she needed to come home to her children and husband, she also needed to come home to her Today family.”
Another insider revealed there were “lots of hugs” behind the scenes, while getting back to work means Savannah has “a sense of normalcy” after a draining couple of months.
But they added: “She’s prepared to go back to Arizona if there are major developments in the case, or wherever she’s needed.”
At the top of the show, Savannah – who appeared alongside Craig Melvin – told viewers it was “good to be home”.
There were plenty of “welcome back” signs being waved outside the Today show plaza during her first show back.
Visibly emotional, she said: “These signs are so beautiful. You guys have been so beautiful.
“I’ve received so many letters, so much kindness to me and my whole family. We feel it. We feel your prayers. So thank you so much.”
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department (PCSD) launched an urgent search for Nancy after she failed to show up for a church service on 1 February, the day after her relatives had dropped her home.
Investigators believe she was kidnapped overnight, and have obtained surveillance footage of a masked man at her door.
Earlier this month, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos admitted that investigators believe they know the motive behind the kidnapping, but didn’t offer any details.
He told NBC News: “We believe we know why [the kidnapper] did this and we believe that it was targeted, but we’re not 100% sure of that.
“I think day one, we had some strong beliefs about what happened, and those beliefs haven’t diminished.”
Savannah and her family are offering a $1 million reward for information that leads to Nancy’s “recovery”. They are also planning to donate $500,000 to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to help other families with missing loved ones.
