There’s a lot of changes coming at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital!
On Wednesday, Grey’s Anatomy bosses made the shock announcement that two longtime stars, Kevin McKidd and Kim Raver, who play Owen Hunt and Teddy Altman, are LEAVING! OMG!

They will make their exit during the Season 22 finale that will air on May 7. And unfortunately for them, it wasn’t their choice! A source told Variety this came down to a creative decision. Oof.
There has also been lots of reports that the show has been needing to trim its budget, with other cast members losing out on screen time. As two of the longest-running stars on the show, we have to imagine they had big paychecks, too. So, uh, maybe that’s why they’re getting booted as well?? Hmm.

For now, the actors are taking the exit gracefully. Kevin — who joined in Season 5 — said in a statement to Page Six and other outlets that the show’s “been a huge chapter of [his] life,” noting he’s “deeply grateful for everything the show has given [him] over the years,” including getting to direct the medical drama. He also praised creator Shonda Rhimes:
“As that chapter comes to a close, I’m looking forward to what’s ahead — building new work, telling new stories, and taking everything I’ve learned into the next phase of my career.”

Meanwhile, Kim — who joined in Season 6 (though left on her own volition back at the end of Season 8 and returned in Season 14) — said in a statement that her character “will always hold a dear and special place in my heart.” See her full reflection:
Now, the only good news for fans is that Shonda promised their characters — which *spoiler alert* appear to be reconciling after just getting divorced — will get “the happy ending their story deserves.” It doesn’t sound like anyone’s getting killed off — so who knows, they could always return in the future or make a cameo?
They’ve been on the show for so long, it’ll surely be a loss… Well, to some fans.
