Is Galactus hiding his reason for invading Earth? The director of The Fantastic Four: First Steps reveals how the World Eater plays into the larger story of the film.
When it was first revealed that Galactus would be one of the main villain’s in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, many fans thought that they had the movie pegged. The last son of Taa-an would hunger for a heaping helping of Earth, and Marvel’s First Family would come to stop him. However, things got a bit trickier when it was confirmed that Franklin Richards would appear in the film.
For those unaware, in the comics, Franklin Richards is a reality warper who would eventually take on Galactus as his herald. (yes, you read that right). This has led many to wonder if the two character’s stories would be linked in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. While he didn’t spoil too much, the film’s director Matt Shakman did confirm that the two were destined to meet.
“What was so charming about this movie is it’s about the tiniest, youngest thing in the world and the oldest, biggest thing in the universe,” Shakman explained to Games Radar. “Galactus’s scale is a big part of him and Ralph Ineson is an amazing actor; that voice, that presence. He felt 1000ft tall.”
Galactus Role In The Fantastic Four: First Steps
Early reports for The Fantastic Four: First Steps put a spin on the Galactus’ relationship with Franklin Richards from the comics. It seems as though the World Eater will be seeking out the child for his power, which was hinted at in a recent teaser where Reed Richards stated that the villain wanted their baby. Perhaps in this continuity, Galactus wants to make Franklin HIS herald.
Though given the universe The Fantastic Four: First Steps is set in will likely be destroyed, it’s possible that the power at the core of Franklin Richards ends up backfiring, potentially tearing the very universe to shreds. As such, Galactus would be (temporarily) fended off. Though with the film so close to release, the truth about their dynamic will be revealed soon enough.
