Having nearly completed a month of release in theaters worldwide, Final Destination Bloodlines is wrapping up what has been a textbook theatrical run for a film of its size and shape. The horror movie has more than quadrupled its reported budget, delivered franchise-best box office results, and, most importantly, gotten a new generation of audiences interested in the series. The movie has now passed what could be its final global box office milestone, as it solidifies Warner Bros.’ comeback after a sad start to the year with the back-to-back underperformance of Bong Joon Ho’s Mickey 17 and Barry Stevenson’s The Alto Knights.
With just under $125 million domestically and another $133 million from overseas markets, Bloodlines has grossed a cumulative total of $257 million worldwide. The movie was produced on a reported budget of $50 million, and has comfortably outperformed every installment of the Scream franchise, which was also reintroduced to a new generation not that long ago. This weekend, Bloodlines overtook the $240 million lifetime global haul of 2012’s Resident Evil: Retribution, the fifth installment of the post-apocalyptic franchise, which holds a 28% Rotten Tomatoes score.
During the course of its run, Bloodlines has also overtaken memorable horror movies such as Get Out ($252 million), The Blair Witch Project ($248 million), Smile ($217 million), Bram Stoker’s Dracula ($215 million), and The Others ($207 million). It’s also the highest-grossing installment of the long-running Final Destination series, which has generated a total of over $900 million at the worldwide box office. The series’ previous highest-grossing entry was Final Destination 5, which made nearly $190 million 14 years ago.
‘Bloodlines’ Earned Franchise-Best Reviews
Bloodlines opened to excellent reviews; the movie holds a “certified fresh” 92% Rotten Tomatoes score and an impressive “verified hot” 88% audience score. In her review, Collider’s Emma Kiely wrote that the movie gives fans of the franchise exactly what they want: “gore, atmosphere, and insane methods to kill its characters, nothing more, nothing less.” Directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, Bloodlines is headlined by Kaitlyn Santa Juana. You can watch Bloodlines in theaters, and stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
