Does Lois Lane have a bright future ahead in the DC Universe? Elizabeth Tulloch gives her hopes for Rachel Brosnahan’s take on the iconic character.
Rachel Brosnahan officially takes up the mantle of Lois Lane in James Gunn’s Superman. She marks the tenth actress to play the DC Universe’s greatest reporter in live-action, with the most recent incarnation before her being played by Elizabeth Tulloch in Superman and Lois. Though if one is to count animated appearances, the number shoots up to the double digits.
The actress has gotten a lot of support from the prior actresses to take on the role of Lois Lane prior to her debut in Superman. And with the DC Universe’s first film finally barreling its way to theaters, Heroic Hollywood got to sit down with Elizabeth Tulloch to discuss the legacy of the role of Lois Lane. When asked what she hopes to see out of Rachel Brosnahan’s performance going forward, Tulloch simply stated that she wants to see the passion at the core of the character shine bright.
“I mean, what makes Lois Lane Lois Lane? The feistiness, the determination, this dogged pursuit of truth, and, you know, the kind of work ethic. And I’m sure she will bring that and, you know, the sense of humor too. I would imagine is gonna be there.
“I’ve heard that the Krypto dog in particular has been some of the, you know, responsible for a lot of the funniest scenes in the new Superman movie.”
Elizabeth Tulloch’s Future After Lois Lane
While Rachel Brosnahan is picking up the torch of Lois Lane, Elizabeth Tulloch isn’t slowing down. The actress reveals that she’s already hard at work on multiple projects following the finale of Superman and Lois. Tulloch also teased that, if the opportunity presented itself, she’d be open to making a return to the DC Universe sometime down the line.
“I don’t know,” Tulloch remarked when asked about her future plans. “I mean, I’m doing a movie right now called The Pirate King. That’s an indie dramedy that’s really exciting. It’s a great cast. Billie Lourd, Jordana Brewster, and Rob Riggle, among others.
“And, I have a movie coming out in a couple of months [Nickles] with Odessa A’zion and Aaron Holiday, also Rob Riggle. So it really depends. You know? I mean, obviously, I would love to do anything within the DC universe. I had so much fun playing this character.”
While Elizabeth Tulloch may be handing over the reins of Lois Lane to Rachel Brosnahan, that certainly doesn’t mean her impact on the character will disappear. Like most actors and actresses who have portrayed a character in the DC Universe, their fingerprints will be felt across the franchise for a long time to come. Though if tradition is any bearing, it’s also possible she makes a cameo in a Superman series sometime down the line!
