Is Mister Terrific getting his own spin-off? Edi Gathegi talks about his potential return as the hero following his breakout performance in Superman.
There’s a lot of things fans loved about Superman. A lot of those things were the actors, with each one giving career-defining performances as their respective heroes. However, if there was one hero that made a bigger impact than any other, it would be Mister Terrific. The character has absolutely exploded among general audiences due to Edi Gathegi’s fantastic performance, with fans already wondering when he’ll be making his return.
And it seems the hype for Mister Terrific isn’t lost on Edi Gathegi. The actor recently spoke about his role in Superman to The Wrap, remarking that there’s a certain buzz in his body following the general public’s reaction to his performance. However, he also knows that the character is important to a lot of people, and he plans to honor that.
“I’m levitating. I’m pretty much levitating 24/7,” Gathegi remarked before speaking on his training for the role. “I felt there was a huge opportunity to push myself to the limits. I might be playing this character for 10 years,. I want to do what’s sustainable. I want to do it naturally.”
“There’s an opportunity to create new norms for kids — Black kids, but also all kids — who are told they’re too smart, or nerdy, or quiet. Mister Terrific inspires them to feel like they can be themselves. It’s their intellect that’s powerful.”
Will Edi Gathegi Return As Mister Terrific?
Though while it seems that Edi Gathegi pulled out all the stops to prepare for his performance in Superman, the actor isn’t counting his chickens before they hatch. Gathegi was asked his thoughts on the rumor that a spin-off for the character was being planned following audiences’ reaction to the hero. While he’d love to return, he ultimately leaves things up to the powers-that-be to do what they think is best for the character.
“I’d love to step into his shoes again. I’ve fallen in love with this character,” Gethegi remarked “If they feel like the best way to continue telling this story is with Mister Terrific, then I’ll be grateful. If it’s not, then I know it’s for the better of the story.”
Given how popular Mister Terrific has become, it’d be shocking if a spin-off isn’t already in development. It’s possible for Edi Gathegi to become one of the new faces of the DC Universe is the team plays their cards right. And given how much leeway the box office of Superman is likely providing the DC Studios team, his return is likely a “when”, not “if”.
