Another twist in a story that just won’t sit still.
Sean “Diddy” Combs has once again seen his projected prison release date shift — and this time, it’s moving in a direction that will no doubt spark even more conversation about his case.
According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons website via People on Tuesday, the embattled music mogul’s sentence has been shortened by an additional (!) ten days. That may not sound like much, but in the broader context of what has already been a constantly evolving timeline, it’s significant.

Combs, now 56, is currently expected to be released on April 15, 2028. That’s a small but noticeable change from the April 25, 2028 date he was previously facing, and an even bigger departure from the June 4, 2028 projection that was on the table not long ago. Yes, we’ve been here before — watching dates move, sometimes forward, sometimes back — but this latest adjustment continues a recent trend of time being shaved off his sentence.
If you’ve been following along, you know the timeline has been anything but stable. Just months ago, in December, his release date was actually pushed back from May to June 2028. Then came a major shift earlier this month that brought it up to April. Now, another small but meaningful reduction. It’s a rollercoaster, and one that’s far from over.
Combs is serving a 50-month sentence after being convicted last summer on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution under the Mann Act. While he was acquitted of the most serious accusations — including sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy — the conviction still carried real consequences.
Before even beginning his sentence, Combs spent about a year detained in Brooklyn after being denied bail. He is now incarcerated at a federal facility in New Jersey, where he has reportedly been participating in a drug rehab program — something that can sometimes contribute to reduced time served through good behavior credits.
But here’s the thing: the legal fight is still very much alive. His attorneys have already filed an appeal, arguing that the encounters at the heart of the case were consensual and that the sentence handed down was excessive. On the other side, federal prosecutors are standing firm. They’ve urged the appellate court to uphold both the conviction and the sentence, painting a far darker picture of Combs’ behavior and alleging a pattern of abuse, coercion, and manipulation that they argue was considered at sentencing.
The appeal hearing is scheduled for April 9, and it could prove to be a pivotal moment. Depending on how that plays out, this already fluid timeline could shift yet again… in either direction.
So yes, while April 15, 2028 is the date to watch right now, don’t get too comfortable with it. In this case, certainty has been in very short supply.
