After years of quietly honing his sound, Cruz Beckham is finally ready to make some noise. The youngest son of David and Victoria Beckham has confirmed that his much-anticipated new single is on the way — marking the official relaunch of his music career.
The 20-year-old aspiring singer/songwriter first dipped his toes into the pop world back in 2016 with ‘If Every Day Was Christmas’, a charity track released when he was just 11. The single raised funds for Global’s Make Some Noise and gave an early glimpse of his voice — but it was more a childhood moment than a career move.
Nearly a decade later, Beckham’s gearing up to launch what many consider to be his “real” musical debut, with the release of two new tracks ‘OPTICS’ and ‘LICK THE TOAD’, this Friday!
Announcing the news to followers online, Cruz shared the singles artwork along with a 45 second clip of one songs, and captioned the post: “OPTICS and LICK THE TOAD double single release out this Friday 24 October. Pre- save in bio.”
News of the singles release comes just a week after Cruz, along with this band (rumoured to be called Waste Your Pain), supported Welsh indie-rock outfit The Royston Club on several dates of their UK and European tour.
Rumours have been rife for quite some time now that Cruz’s sound will draw heavily from classic British influences — think Oasis, The Beatles, and The Kooks. That last name isn’t a coincidence: Luke Pritchard of the band has reportedly been mentoring Beckham in songwriting and production, guiding him toward a more guitar-driven, organic sound.
Speaking to The Sun earlier this year, Pritchard said: “We started writing songs together and we’ve become mates. I’d just love to help him navigate a career in music. He’s naturally going to come under criticism because of who his parents are, but he’s aware of that — I actually thought it was great when he said ‘Jesus was a nepo baby too!’ What a funny response.”
