Ana de Armas is looking back on how being nominated for an Oscar has affected her career.

The 37-year-old actress became the first Cuban nominated for Best Actress at the Oscars in 2023 for her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in the movie Blonde.

While attending the Red Sea International Film Festival this past week, Ana reflected on her nomination and shared how it hasn’t affected the roles she’s offered.

“I get it,” she said, via Variety. “A Cuban playing Marilyn Monroe is very strange. A week of preparation on my own, and my accent was a disaster. Long story short, we managed to convince the producers that I was the right choice. Andrew [Dominik, director] had been casting that movie for 10 years, and he wouldn’t do it with anyone else. It’s the scariest thing I’ve ever done. It was a beautiful, delicious torture.”

She adds that it hasn’t changed the roles she offered, noting, “some people feel like it was a fluke, like somehow I did it. There’s still this kind of feeling of having to prove myself again somehow.”

“But I’ve always been the one looking for what I want to do instead of just waiting for what they have to offer,” she added.

Ana also recalled how she went from filming Blonde to No Time to Die three days later.

“I finished Blonde on a Friday and started shooting Bond on a Monday. In my first scene in the movie, I started talking like Marilyn,” she said. “I had 48 hours to say goodbye to a huge character and start the next one. If you look at Paloma, you can see a little bit of Marilyn in it. It was not intentional, but I think it made her even more special.”

However, she notes she “got a lot of opportunities” because of the Bond movie.

Next up, Ana is starring in Reenactment with Benicio Del Toro and Cameron Diaz.

“I’m gonna do this movie in LA with Grant Singer, who’s a director that just by doing rehearsals and some work on the script so far, I love working with, collaborating with. He’s a very young director. I think he’s brilliant,” she said, via Deadline.

“Benicio del Toro, who if you haven’t seen in One Battle After Another, please go because he is unbelievable as always. So, I’m doing that with him and Cameron Diaz… We’re going to be filming in January,” Ana added.

Details on the project are unknown, and the actress says, “It’s top secret. They will kill me.”
